The NJ Bureau of Pesticide Compliance is responsible for enforcing the state code and the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) with regards to the use, sale, distribution, and manufacture of pesticides in the state of New Jersey. The Bureau is also responsible for enforcing the Worker Protection Standard, ensuring the safety of the 40,000 agricultural workers on New Jersey farms and nurseries.
Pesticide use can be limited and used in ways to protect clean water and still keep pests away from homes and food sources. Integrated Pest Management (IPM) aims to control insects and diseases while minimizing economic, health, and environmental risks. New legislation passed in 2022, has now classified neonicotinoid pesticides as restricted-use only, prohibiting outdoor, non-agricultural use of this pesticide.
